During my time with United Nations Development Programme Indonesia, I creative directed the first “World Environment Day” in 2018. I led the conception and the design production of both large scale events. Initially, I researched UNDP’s target audience for both events and wrote presentations and proposals of how the visual design that will complement both events would be. Then, I had to create several creative directions and design alternatives that would perfectly fit the theme of each event.

The challenge was assuring the other team members to agree on the rather experimental (design) approach to the event. For the first event, World Environment Day, I researched and reached out to some local digital zines to see what kind of visual designs are used by youth-led environmental events. Then, I carefully curated the design styles to fit UNDP Indonesia’s branding guidelines and current design needs. I found the common ground amongst the team member to be an “environmental campaign for young people”. Then, I used the DIY collage design style, which was trending at that time amongst youth, and adapt that to fit both the event’s concept and UNDP’s branding.

I also included other visual elements in the event such as photography exhibition, artistic venue (Jakarta Creative Hub), mural design to complement the event, etc. The event resulted in positive coverage on at least 21 national news outlets and over 400 new followers on UNDP Indonesia’s social media within a day.
